Location: Work from your own home-based office in Maine (with availability to meet regularly in the Portland/Scarborough area), based on your ability to meet our minimum required telecommuting capabilities. Maine residents only - out of state applicants cannot be considered.
We run Eucalypt Media, a quickly growing content marketing agency, from a remote office in Scarborough, Maine, and work with clients all over the United States and internationally. Our principals are Kathryn and Jeff Hawkins, and we have several staff members and oversee a team of experienced freelance writers and other vetted creative talent.
We manage content strategy, inbound marketing, and content development and promotion (including blogs, ebooks, white papers, and print magazines) for a variety of clients, primarily B2B tech companies.
We need a creative, yet disciplined, part-time writer to help us move both client and internal projects forward. You'll work on projects such as blog content, ebooks, white papers, infographics, solution briefs, and social media copy. Some content may be based on outlines that we'll develop in collaboration with our clients, and some may be based on interviews with clients and subject-matter experts. This is not simple SEO content -- our clients run sophisticated businesses, and they require a high level of skill in communicating their messaging, while also delivering a satisfying and compelling experience for the reader. Ideally, you are interested in technology and understand how to write about its value (not just its specs) effectively.
The role is estimated at 10-20 hours per week, on a variable basis. (As the role will cover another employee's maternity leave to start, it may be higher over the next couple of months.)
Bachelor’s degree or higher, with at least 5 years of professional work experience, ideally with a strong background in freelance journalism for national publications.
Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate legal eligibility to work in the United States, and must be physically resident in the state of Maine. All applicants must be willing to submit to a background check.You will need access to a workspace with a quiet environment where you can engage in phone calls as needed without disturbance. You will also need access to your own high-speed cable Internet (minimum 10Mbps) service.
Hours are relatively flexible, but we will need some availability during traditional 9-5 working hours for staff check-ins and calls with subject matter experts. We will require you to meet with us in person up to several times per month at our coworking space at the Biddeford Think Tank.
We run a lean operation and use cloud-based software tools for almost everything we do, and expect you to quickly become familiar with them, if you are not already. We will share work files and collaborate through cloud-based services including Google Drive, Slack, Teamwork, Hootsuite, and Google Hangouts or Skype. We will provide you with use of a company owned computer.
Flexible schedule, work from home, 401(k) eligibility with 4% employer match after six months, potential for profit-sharing bonuses.

Now that we are seeking help to assist us with larger projects, we aim to always create a positive, ethical, and fair work environment. While we expect great things of our consultants, we also hope to provide them with a great working experience.
As a very small agency, we don't always have the time to look through clips and respond to queries as we receive them, but we keep everything on file. When we are seeking talent for upcoming projects, however, we will reach out if your experience seems like a good fit.
We are always interested to hear from experienced freelance writers. If you have graduated from a writing oriented degree program (writing, creative writing, journalism etc.), and have an available clip portfolio of published pieces we would love to hear from you. Writers that have a proven industry specialty are especially desired.
